Planning and Milestones

Track your project progress

In brief

KaliaOps enables project planning with start and end dates, progress percentage tracking and delay management. Duration is calculated automatically and visual indicators alert on overdue projects.

Planning a project

Project planning is done during creation or via later modification.

Planning elements

  • Start date: When the project starts
  • End date: Target delivery deadline
  • Status: Current phase (Planning, Active, etc.)
  • Progress: Completion percentage (0-100%)

Planning workflow

  1. Create the project in "Planning" status
  2. Define dates and objectives
  3. Move to "Active" status at launch
  4. Update progress regularly
  5. Close as "Completed" on delivery

Key dates

Start date

The start date represents the actual project launch. It can be:

  • A future date (planned project)
  • Today's date (project starting immediately)
  • A past date (project already underway)

End date

The end date is the target deadline. It defines:

  • Delivery timeframe
  • Reference for delay calculation

Calculated duration

KaliaOps automatically calculates:

Duration = End date - Start date

Duration displays in days on the project card.

Tip: Build in buffer time for the end date. IT projects often exceed initial timelines.

Tracking progress

Progress percentage

The Completion field shows overall project progress (0-100%).

Updating

Update progress manually:

  1. Open the project card
  2. Click "Edit"
  3. Adjust the percentage
  4. Save

Visual indicators

  • Progress bar: Graphical progress visualization
  • Color: Green (on track), Orange (attention), Red (overdue)

Best practices

  • Update progress at least weekly
  • Be realistic in estimates
  • Document reasons for significant changes

Managing delays

Delay detection

A project is considered overdue if:

  • End date has passed AND status is not "Completed"
  • Progress is below where it should be at this date

Delay indicators

  • "Overdue" badge on project card
  • Red color in project list
  • Alert on dashboard

Corrective actions

When delayed:

  • Revise end date: If delay is unavoidable
  • Adjust resources: Reinforce the team
  • Reduce scope: Prioritize essential deliverables
  • Pause: If project must be suspended

History

Date changes are tracked in project history to document planning evolution.
